You Say Tomato, I Say... Mater!

What's one of the best parts of living in the South? Well, besides rocking chair front porches, SEC football, and the word y'all. Summer vegetables! And, lucky us, we've got some gracious co-workers and neighbors who have recently shared some of their garden delights with us. Which helps, since we (with the help of our wonderful nieces, Kaity & Abby!) got started a little late and didn't get our mater plants in the ground until Memorial Day.

What to do with a kitchen full of fresh veggies? Fry em up! Here's a peak at last night's supper.

Fresh off the vine tomates, for slicing:

Chopping some okra to fry in a corn meal mix:

Frying up some green maters in the same corn meal mixture. Yes, they tasted as good as they look!

Have any of you cooked up some garden fresh vegetables lately? Extra points if the veggies came from your own garden!

Yipee...Kaity and Abby got props! They had an amazing time with you guys. I have never tried fried tomatoes, but the other day I ate a fried pickle...less than impressed...not sure why everything has to be fried. Not a true southerner, I know, but then again, I've lived here my whole life...so who knows!?!
